Sneak peak at the next wave

With three (smaller) models complete it means that Im am now allowed to make three new (smaller) models. I have gone with a couple of Forsaken and another Marauder as these are the most numerous of my models. As you can tell there is still a long way to go and they may undergo significant changes from these concepts but I feel the base idea is there for each model.

Marauders - Model 1 - Conversion

This my first test piece at converting an Empire figure (in this case a gunner) into a Nurgle Marauder. I replaced the gun with an axe and gave him a knackered shield. I also gave him a mangled foot and a horn bursting through his helmet.

Pieces used:

Body - Empire gunner

Axe hand - Blightkings

Shield - Vampire Counts Mortis Engine

Foot - Plague Drone Rider

Horn - random spiky bit from somewhere

Lord on Daemonic Mount

In the random bag of bits I bough off trademe there was the Gorebeast model from the chariot kit and I really wanted to use it. I decided to use it as a Daemonic Mount for a Nurgle Lord. To make the Lord I havev used the Sorcerers body and Scythe from the Maggoth Lord kit, the antlered head and the giant axe from the Blightkings kit , some legs from the Hellstriders kit and the Daemon head shield from the knights kit. This will require a fair amount of green stuff work but Im hoping the final result will look great.

Sorcerer on Palanquin

I had a bunch of Nurglings left over from the Pestilent Swarm boxed set that I didn't know what to do with. I also had some left over chariot pieces from the random bag of bits that I bought so I thought I'd combine them to make a Palanquin of Nurgle. Then, to make the Sorcerer I took the body of a Vampire Necromancer I hadnt finished painting, used the Sorcerer head from the Maggoth Lord kit, the 3 heads arm from the Plague bearer kit and the banner pole arm from the Ungor kit I got off Hoard o'bits. The staff top came from the Blightking kit and the chains I got from the bag of bits from trademe. To make him extra Nurgly I added a bunch of tentacles from the Forsaken kit, both as feet and an extra cluster on his left shoulder.

Warriors

I wanted my Warriors to look very Nurgly so I have used the Plague bearer bodies with some Warrior helmets and shields. The weapons will be a combination of various sources. The champion has the champion cloak from the Warriors of Chaos boxed set with one of the left over torsos from the Blightkings kit. I want to give them the cloaks from the High Elves White Lions but Hoard o'bits is currently out of stock. The banner top is from 40k and the musicians flail bells are from the Blightkings kit.

Forsaken

Using the forsaken boxed set and topping it up 5 extra bodies from some Black Orcs I have a unit of 15. I have used larger bases to make it a 5 by 4 unit, so that the unit Champion can be on a 50mm base as he is a true monster. At the moment I have yet to really sort out the arms and heads for most of them, but they will pretty much be made from left overs from every other kit.

Marauders

The idea came to me that the Marauders should come from an Empire Battalion that was sent to take on this Nurgle Hoard and lost. The survivors becoming infected and turning Nurgly. This is a great opportunity to really play with some Nurgly bits and lots of green stuff. It also gave me reason to use the Empire models from the 6th Edition boxed set that I originally bought solely for the Orc figures.

I gained a Slaughtbrute face in the bag of bits I bought off trademe and had intended to use it for my daemon prince but it was too large in the end so I made use of it for the Marauder banner. It kind of looks like a Chinesse parade dragon. Im looking forward to seeing how this comes out.

Knights

The Chaos Knights always look so bad ass but to make them more Nurgly I have used the shields and helmets that came with the Blightkings. The champion is riding a converted horse from the Empire General boxed set and is ridden by one of the plague drone riders.

Blightkings

I love the Blightkings boxed set, it has so many excess Nurgle parts to play with. However to keep to my 'must use at least 2 kits' rule I have used Plague bearer and Forsaken heads, along with some Forsaken, Dragon Ogre and Spawn arms to spice them up.

As you can see I have evened up their number by using my test painted Nurlge Lord, now with some conversions of his own.

Spawn

Here is a quick knock up of one of the Spawn I intend to make. I intend to use the Plague Drone body for both Spawn but have only decided on the layout of the first one so far. I like idea of something along the lines of a 'Bile Scorpion'.

As you can see I have the body of the Plague Drone with the stomach mouth of a Maggoth Lord and the legs from a Tyrannid. It also has a spikey spine made from a Minotaurs mane.

Model kits and sourced pieces

Here are the boxed sets I have collected to form the majority of this Nurgle project.

I have the 6th edition of the Warhammer Fantasy boxed set from which I will be using the Empire figures to make a converted unit of Marauders. There is a box of Forsaken for the great choice of limbs & heads it offers and a box of knights as they just look bad ass. To round it off I got the 'Pestilent Swarm' boxed set for all its Nurgly goodness. 

I have also sourced parts from various places. I have the Empire General boxed set, the Nurgle Lord blister, some choice pieces from the very useful www.hoardobits.com and a random bag of left over Chaos Warrior bits I bought off trademe (New Zealands eBay). 

Early paint test of Nurgle Lord

This is an early paint test I did of a Nurgle Lord. It was the first Nurgle model I bought, on a whim, and really enjoyed painting it.

I went for the rusted bronze armour look with red cloth. This might be changed for the full army, Im thinking purple cloth would look better, giving it a bruised kind of vibe. However, I like the skin colour, Ogryn Camo, it gives a kind of bloated, rotted feel. It was washed with watered down reds and pinks. I dont like the spike/horn colours, since then I watched a painting tutorial and have a better idea how to do these in the future.
